Biography :

Dr. Fenniri was educated at the University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France, receiving his undergraduate degree in chemistry and biochemistry (1989, top of his class), and his M.Sc./Ph.D. degrees in supramolecular science and engineering (1990/1994) under the supervision of Professor Jean-Marie Lehn (Nobel Laureate). He then joined the Scripps Research Institute in California, USA, where he carried out his postdoctoral training under the supervision of Professor Richard A. Lerner (President and CEO). In 1997 he moved to Purdue University, where he initiated his independent academic career, and established the Purdue Laboratory for Chemical Nanotechnology (1999). In 2003, He joined the National Research Council and the University of Alberta to build and lead the Supramolecular Nanoscale Assembly program, and contribute to the shaping of the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT), its research programs and facilities, and the recruitment of highly qualified personnel. NINT has since grown from 4 principal investigators in 2003 to a vibrant research and technology organization of over 350 researchers in 2013. In addition, Dr. Fenniri held a full professor position with the Department of Chemistry (since 2003-2013) and adjunct full professor positions with the department of biomedical engineering (since 2010) with the faculty of medicine, and with the department if Chemistry (since 2013) at the University of Alberta. Dr. Fenniri is currently Professor Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at Northeastern University, Boston, MA, USA. Dr. Fenniri has achieved international recognition as a leader in the areas of self-assembly, supramolecular chemistry, nanomedicine, combinatorial chemistry, and materials sciences. His group works at the forefront of basic and applied nanosciences, in collaboration with various academic institutions, federal laboratories, and with the private sector. Dr. Fenniri’s contributions appeared in over 190 publications, 8 patents, and over 400 contributed national and international conference papers. Dr. Fenniri has also presented his work in over 150 invited distinguished lectures, colloquia and seminars around the globe. His research programs are supported by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Alberta Advanced Education and Technology, the US National Institutes of Health, the National Research Council of Canada, the University of Alberta, and several private, provincial and federal funding organizations. Dr. Fenniri is the recipient of several academic and professional honours and awards, including the Xerox UAC Award (2006–2008), the 3M Faculty Award (2000, 2002), the Showalter Trust Fund Award (1999, 2001), the Trask Trust Fund Technology Innovation Award (2000), the Cottrell Teacher Scholar Award (2000–2005), and the US National Science Foundation Career Award (1999–2003). Dr. Fenniri is Member of the Editorial Board of several scientific journals and serves on several national and international scientific boards, panels, and committees. Dr. Fenniri has been an invited professor at the Université de Strasbourg and the Collège de France (2010), the National University of Taiwan (2007), and the University of Colorado Boulder, USA (2004). He has also been DAAD Visiting Professor at Regensburg University, Germany (2002, 2003).

Dr. Fabian Davamani completed his PhD at IBMS, University of Madras and worked at National Institute of Immunology, India and National Science Council, Taiwan as a post doctoral fellow. Currently working as a faculty in International Medical University, Malaysia; previously worked at Loyola College, Chennai and Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS), Pilani, India. Worked on infectious diseases of the eyes, genotyping of BPD patients, peptides and truncated protein internalization, mechanism and pathways, developed nano formulation against microbes. Biosaferty officer and Deputy Head, Center for Bioactive Molecules and Drug Delivery (BMDD) in International Medical University (IMU) and Head microbiology research focus group IMU.

Biography :

Dr. James Liang is a Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology. Previously, Dr. Liang served as professor at Tsinghua University (Beijing) and Associate Research Professor at University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). Dr. Liang is currently editorial board members of three scientific journals and has over 100 peer-reviewed publications. There are three research projects in Dr. Liang, Laboratory: 1) Bacteria responsible materials for bio-fouling and medical device infections; 2) Therapeutic peptides; and 3) Nano-technology enabled bacteria and cancer cell sensing.

Dr. James Liang's research interests are bioactive peptides, functional polymers, and their potential pharmaceutical and biomedical applications.

Dr Antony is an Associate Professor at the School of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Leeds. His primary research interest is in the area of Particulate Mechanics and Physics, especially on the bulk behaviour of powders and grain under industrial process conditions as a function of particle-scale properties. He performs a number of inter-disciplinary research projects including in the area of biomechanics. He uses wide range of computational tools such as DEM, FEM, theoretical and experimental procedures in his research. He has obtained the prestigious MIT Young Researcher Fellowship Award for Exemplary Research in Computational Mechanics. He has made several publications in reputed international journals and conference proceedings. He serves as a member of editorial boards for many international journals in his filed including Journal of Nanotechnology and Research Letters in Nano Technology. Also, he serves as a regular referee for several international journals, including Physical Review Letters and Physical Review E. He has served as a guest editor for the Jl. Granular Matter and the lead editor of the book ‘Granular Materials: Fundamentals and Applications’, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London in 2004. He is a member of many professional bodies worldwide. His research sponsors include EPSRC, Royal Society, DTI, ICI, BNFL, P&G, Pfizer, Borax Hosakawa Micron, Bridon International Ltd, Merck Sharp & Dohme, DuPont and Kayser-Threde. Dr. Bharat Bhushan is an Ohio Eminent Scholar and The Howard D. Winbigler Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, a Graduate Research Faculty Advisor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, and the Director of the Nanotribology Laboratory for Information Storage & MEMS/NEMS (NLIM) at the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. B.E. 1970, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, India; MS 1971, Massachusetts Institute of Techology, Cambridge; MS 1973, University of Colorado, Boulder; PhD 1976, University of Colorado, Boulder Dr. Bhushan holds two M.S., a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering/mechanics, an MBA, and three semi-honorary and honorary doctorates. He received his Doctor Honouris Causa from Metal-Polymer Research Institute of National Acad. of Sci., Gomel, Belarus in 2000; and Doctor of Technical Sciences Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland in 1996. He has organized various international conferences and workshops. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and international fellowships. He is a member of various professional societies, including the International Academy of Engineering (Russia).

Biography :

Shaker A Mousa finished his PhD from Ohio State University, College of Medicine, Columbus, OH and Post-doctoral Fellowship, University of Kentucky, Lexington KY. He also received his MBA from Widener University, Chester, PA. He is currently an endowed tenure Professor and Executive Vice President and Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Research Institute and Vice Provost for Research at ACPHS. Prior to his academic career, he was a senior Scientist and fellow at The DuPont Pharmaceutical Company for 17 years, where he contributed to the discovery and development of several FDA approved and globally marketed diagnostics and therapeutics. He holds over 350 US and International Patents discovering novel anti-angiogenesis strategies, antithrombotics, anti-integrins, anti-cancer, and non-invasive diagnostic imaging approaches employing various nanotechnology platforms. His has published more than 1,000 journal articles, book chapters, published patents, and books as editor and author. He is a member of several NIH study sections, and the Editorial Board Member of several high impact Journals. His research has focused on diagnostics and therapeutics of angiogenesis-related disorders, thrombosis, vascular and cardiovascular diseases.

Research Interest :

Dr. Mousa's current research interests include: Adhesion molecules in health and diseases, Novel therapeutic and diagnostic targets, Treatment and prevention of ischemic and coronary artery diseases, Angiogenesis modulation, vascular and tissue remodeling, and novel anti-platelet, anti-thrombotic and anti-ischemic therapies. Dr. Mousa received a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from The Ohio State University, completed postdoctoral research in Cardiovascular Pharmacology at the University of Kentucky and earned his MBA from Widener University. A native of Alexandria, Egypt, he received his B.Pharm. and M.Sc. degrees from Alexandria University. He was elected a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (FACB), and is a member of several national and international societies. He was recently awarded grants through the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Institute of Health.

Dr. Mary Mehrnoosh Eshaghian-Wilner has over 26 years of research experience in various areas within the field of Computer Engineering. Additionally, she has worked in the area of patent law for several years. She has published numerous scientific papers, including two books, and has handled the prosecution and infringement analysis of many complex U.S. and international patents. Dr. Eshaghian-Wilner currently is a Professor of Engineering Practice at the Electrical Engineering-Systems Department at the University of Southern California (USC), and since 2004 has been an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Prior to joining UCLA, she was a tenured full Professor and Department Head at the Computer Engineering Department of Rochester Institute of Technology. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner received her B.S. degree in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering (1985), M.S. degree in Computer Engineering (1985), her Engineers degree in Electrical Engineering (1988), and her Ph.D. in Computer Engineering (1988), all from USC. She holds a J.D. degree from the Northwestern California School of Law, and has graduated Cum Laude with an LL.M. degree from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. She is admitted to the State Bar of California and the Washington, D.C. Bar, and is registered as a Patent Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner is best known for her pioneering contributions to three areas of Optical Computing, Heterogeneous Computing, and Nanoscale Computing. In the area of Optical Computing, she produced one of the first theses that dealt with the computational aspects of optical interconnects for VLSI chips. The OMC model was developed by Professor Eshaghian-Wilner as part of her Ph.D. work, and since then, many architectures and algorithms have been designed by on that model. In the area of Heterogeneous Computing, Professor Eshaghian-Wilner is the editor of the field's first book, "Heterogeneous Computing," and she is the co- founder of the IEEE Heterogeneous Computing Workshop. The NSF-funded Cluster-M model was developed by her team, as one of the first paradigms for executing heterogeneous applications to systems. The Cluster-M mapping is still the fastest known algorithm for mapping arbitrary task graphs onto arbitrary system graphs. In the area of Nanoscale Computing, one of Professor Eshaghian-Wilner's most notable results involves the design of highly interconnected multiprocessor chips with spin waves that possess an unprecedented degree of interconnectivity that was not possible previously with electrical VLSI interconnects. These designs have a great potential to be used as part of miniature implantable devices for biomedical applications and nanomedicine. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner serves on the editorial board of Journal of Nanomedicine and Nanotechnology, and is a founding series co-editor of "Nature Inspired Computing" for Wiley & Sons. She has edited the first book of this series, "Bio-inspired and Nanoscale Integrated Computing". Professor Eshaghian-Wilner's most recent area of research is in Technology Law. She is investigating how various forms of emerging technologies may be impacted by, and come into conflict with, U.S. and international policies and laws. For example, Pervasive (heterogeneous/ubiquitous) computing and nanotechnology are two emerging technologies in which she an extensive scientific background. While these two technologies are entirely different from each other, they both are seemingly invisible, one in terms of interconnectivity and the other in terms of size. They can therefore introduce continuously magnifying challenges to policies and laws that protect rights and property. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner has founded and/or chaired numerous IEEE conferences and organizations, including the IEEE Women in Engineering affinity division of the Coastal Los Angeles Section. She is the recipient of several prestigious grants and honors including a teaching award for being voted as the best teacher by her engineering students. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner is a nominee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.
